IU Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak met with women members of the Istanbul University at a meeting held on March 8, International Women’s Day.
IU Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak said that they have gathered not only for International Women’s Day, but also for sharing the beauty of being a family. “The presence and status of women in our university are higher than the average of Turkey. This is something that makes us proud. We should use our departments actively; especially those that can be more associated with women. Our university will remain respectful to and proud of the existence of women within the institution not only on March 8, but every day.”
Speaking at the meeting, IU ENUYGAR (Disability Applied Research Center) Director Prof. Dr. Resa Aydın emphasized the importance of the collaborations between ENUYGAR and Istanbul University’s Center for Research and Practice of Women Studies. Prof. Dr. Aydın added, “Women and disabled people have lower position in society. Also, both women and people with disabilities are being ignored by society” and emphasized that there are still lots of work to be done regarding this issue.
At the meeting, Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak and women members of Istanbul University discussed the women’s studies currently taking place at the university.
