Mahmut Ak said “Istanbul University is making great and rapid steps towards becoming a research university. As Istanbul University we made 73 patent applications in 2015. Happily, we raised this number to 115 this year. We support our faculty members in obtaining patents. We pay application fees as the Rectorate. We are striving to do whatever it takes to open the way for our academic members who do science. We are integrating technological improvements into our education system successfully. Our university, which represents our country successfully in scientific fields by producing value added projects, is an important building block in international competition. We will maintain our leadership among universities by strengthening our work in research and innovation areas in the coming years.”
“Every university should have an annual patent aim”
Stating that patent applications of universities have increased 28 times in 8 years and this is something proud, Ali Çavuşoğlu said: “However, we are of opinion that this number should be increased. Every university should have annual patent aim. We should aim having at least 10 universities that have patents more than 1000 until 2023 and also making our universities into institutions that commodify these patents and enlarge that ecosystem of yielding from them.”
Çavuşoğlu, implying states’ level of development is understood from their patents, expressed that industrial supplies should be increased and consciousness of trade with registered products should be spread in order to increase patent numbers.
